I am not a lawyer!

That’s the disclaimer out the way, so what am I? I am a mature law student with an interest in football.

This blog was inspired by the mess that is Coventry City Football Club and the claim and counter-claim and counter-counter-claim and counter-counter-counter-claim and counter-counter… well, you get the idea.

The fans of Coventry City Football Club are being kept in the dark and misled.

To make matters worse, many of the journalists covering the crisis continue to report the claims and counter-claims without appearing to make basic checks on their validity. Journalists are reporting statements by key personnel and even when those statements are proved false by later events; they do not seem to go back and hold their sources to account.

When a source has proved, by his own words and the reality of what actually happens, to be unreliable; then you stop using that source. You certainly don’t keep on reporting new claims by the source without an appropriate disclaimer to set the claims in context; or even to not make clear that the source in question has no legal right to make the claims being made.

I care about football.

I care about journalism.

And that’s why I created this blog. While it was inspired by the plight of Coventry City Football Club – and many of its early posts will be about the club – this blog will take a much wider look at the interface between football and the law; and, occasionally, other sports too.
